Weekend at Home

Stephanies sunburned legs:Sheerlie's Birthday Party at our Apartment. She is 21
Bars in Jerusalem with Marla and Ayala

I'm in the library on a break from writing a paper about gender roles during the kibbutz movement in Israel. It's pretty interesting but also I'm in my eighth semester of college and am pretty bored of writing papers. I would like to do research on interesting things all the time but just leave it at that. While checking out books for this paper I also checked out a number of scholarly but non-relevant books which I can return whenever I feel like it, a cool thing about our library. They email you if someone else wants the book otherwise you just get keep it.

This weekend was a research weekend and not a travel weekend. It was a hard decision to make and adhere to but I did it. It was a companionable weekend with many people I like very much actually and turned out to be a good thing. On Friday I walked to Mehane Yehuda market with Molly and Marla and then of course had to take the bus back because of how much my produce weighed. I got a pomelo, apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, a bunch of pita, a challah loaf, a bag of peppers all for less than around ten dollars. Back at home I worked on my research for a few hours and then joined Arye and Roey in the kitchen to prepare for the separate shabbat dinners we were all going to. Roey and I made chocolate chip cookies with no recipe in a toaster oven and they were some of the best cookies I've even contributed to.  I'm pretty sure he would take full credit if you asked him but I think I played a key role in their creation. I made quinoa and lentils (surprise, surprise...something new and different for me) with peppers and tomatos. The three of us sang Israeli folk songs while cooking and then my bubble was burst when Roey said I needed to work on my accent. I'm pretty sure I need to work on actually learning the language before I beat myself up over the way I pronounce the "R" sound but he doesn't agree. When I say his name it probably sounds the equivalent of someone says my name so badly it sounds like "Landzaay" or something similarly incorrect. That probably doesn't make sense since none of you have heard the pronunciation of the name Roey, but I promise its harder than it seems. You have to roll the "r" in the back of your throat and emphasize the sounds correctly without adding in extra vowels. I say lazily like "Rowey" and its more like "Rrrrr-O /break in name,  short= E. That's the equation I've come up with.

So dinner was great, it was with Ayala, Molly, Marla and Alyssa. I had a great ab workout because I was laughing so hard the entire time, particularly at the panicked response to seeing a bunch of sparks fly at the window and there being a false fire alarm. Saturday was more studying and then going out with Marla and Ayala, which was extremely fun. Next weekend is the beginning of Passover Break so I actually have a bunch of work to do this week and also right this second that I need to get back to. A week from today I go on a cruise to Cyprus.

Can't believe it's nearly April.
